Uncharted 2023

Uncharted was Mankin’s first solo exhibition with &Gallery in April 2023 and his fifth in total at that time. In the previous November 2022 Mankin was invited to the Pouch Cove art residency in Newfoundland, a small remote fishing cove close to Cape Spear the most eastern point in North America. The month long residency acted as catalyst which has inspired this body of work translating his appreciation of the unforgiving landscape of Newfoundland, its epic beauty; the wild, untamed seas; dark, dense pine forests: cathedral like cliffs and the drama of the weather.

For Mankin the blank canvas is his voyage into the unknown, each one a journey with no fixed destination. As an explorer in paint he is continually searching for new connections, embracing risk and pushing boundaries to better express and communicate his love of the natural world.
