Passages 2022

Passages, represents Mankin's 5th solo exhibition. The exhibition was with Cricket Fine Art in London. 22nd June to 8th July 2022.

The word ‘Passage’ anchors the work in this exhibition. It is a capricious word, meaning many things at once: a path, a change, a channel, a collection of words, a happening, a detail. It is as layered as the landscape that inspires Mankin; as mercurial as the process of painting; as multifaceted as the viewer’s rapport with the finished piece. Visual encounters and sensory experiences indicate a passage of natural change, inspires shifting thought-patterns. Observers of the landscape, our thoughts change in response to the environment, the weather, the time of year. It is these journeys of thought, which Mankin explores on the canvas: he is exteriorising the internal. The studio space, the blank canvas, and his vacillating thoughts are the spaces where another passage begins: the passage of the painting.
